Another good day for walking, we left The Cromwell Arms car park at Romsey at 9am on Thursday morning. The Test Way path follows the Western edge of the Broadlands Estate, & we were soon passing the Palladian Mansion on our left. For the next 5 miles we followed the field edges with deep ditches & trees on our right, and then just before Nursling we crossed the Test for the first time.
We then came to the M27, where we had to do a detour to cross under the road & then we soon re- joined the path that was now following the Test Estuary Nature Reserve on the right & to the left the beginnings of industrial Southampton. Off the path & then we joined board walk over the reed beds and salt marshes of this wonderful nature reserve ( we were also at low tide, so no wet feet).
At the end of the board walk, a short path led us to 1.5 miles of urban walking through Totton & then back on to the path leading us to the Eling Tide Mill & the end of our 9.5mile walk, where we were met by partners & friends.
My thanks to Bob Helsby, Helen Watson & John Deveson who joined me on this walk & were so supportive of this fund raising event.
Thank you also to all of you for being so generous in your sponsorship.
